Irene loves films - and writes about them - Classics and Moderns - Hollywood and others, too. As long as it is connected with films - it might appear on this blog..
What the ...
This blog is actually written for those who
like films - the non-profesional viewer especially. I believe that if you do something you should enjoy it.. And maybe you'll find something here you think you might enjoy to watch - or an actor/actress you'd like to see more of..
There will be some reviews, picture posts and several series on this blog.
Somehow everything is related to films..
Enjoy!

Today (May, 26 - somehow the "date thing" isn't working here - no matter how often I fix it..) is the birthday of Ingrid Goude who was Miss Sweden in 1956 (In 1951 it was a certain girl named Anita Ekberg..) and appeared in a few movies of maybe not really international fame..
Though I happen not to care too much for nowadays beauty pageants (for beauty pageants at all.. I can't see why anyone should make her-/himself reliant to the judgement of a bunch of people - without need..) - I have a soft spot for the beauty ideals of the past.. (Maybe until the mid 1970's..) Well.. anyway..
Today I will spent the day in the city on my own - which I enjoy very much. It will be kind of a single girl's day - but of course to be with friend is also great - so here you have some pictures of Ingrid Goude having fun with fellow Swedish ladies May Britt and Inger Stevens. And for in Northern Hemisphere the Summer is beginning and at least in USA (for Memorial Day) and in Germany ( for Pentecost) Monday will be a day off (I am not sure whether Azerbaijian's and Armenia's Republic Day and National Day in Etophia are off, too) and I think these pictures really fit the occasion of a long, sunny weekend..
But first:
Happy Birthday, Ingrid
- or:
Grattis pƄ fƶdelsedagen, Ingrid!!!
And now - have a wonderful weekend!..
..and don't forget:
~ Keep your hair in style.. ~
~ make sure you look good on photos - and the light is right.. ~
Here we go with another new series on this blog. It's kind of an equivalent to the Do you remember series - just that in this series I will feature more recent film people.. Some of them might be already stars - some of them are just stars in my little universe.. As always this series is completely subjective..
Of course I originally planned to feature one of my number 1 recent actresses to star in this series first.. But then I found out that a certain actress is celebrating her birthday today.. so here she is - our first guest for this series - and today's birthday girl:
Jaime Winstone
~ copyright: Rex Features ~
Background:
She was born on May 6, 1985 in Camden, London, England.
Her elder sisters Lois Winstone (*1982) is an actress, too. And so is her father Ray Winstone. As far as I know her younger sister Ellie Rae Winstone (*2002) and her mother Elaine McCausland are no actresses - though Ellie appeared together with Lois and Ray Winstone in THE HOT POTATO (2011)..
Jaime Winstone also works as a fashion model - and sings backing vocals for her sister Lois' band (source: Wikipedia.org - so: who knows..)
~ one great part about modeling: wearing amazing shoes.. ~
On Screen - so far:
She did quite a lot for Telly - I think especially the BBC mini-series FIVE DAUGHTERS (2010) based on the Ipswich serial murders on five girls between October 30 and December 10, 2006 is interesting. (Frankly, I actually found that series because of Ian Hart..) Jaime was to play one of the victims.
~ with Al Weaver in FIVE DAUGHTERS ~
Her first appearance in a film was for BULLET BOY (2004) - which I will not watch because in this flick apparently a dog gets shot as an act of revenge.
Like BULLET BOY her next film KIDULTHOOD (2006) dealt with aggressive young adults/teenagers - and I think that rebellious image is quite stuck on Jaime Winstone.
~ in KIDULTHOOD - not the daughter mothers dream of, I guess.. ~
She made herself a name with her next film DADDY'S GIRL (2006) - which brought her to a genre which is not that beloved among my followers - and frankly: If I watch those - I do it on a safe place like my couch..): Horror films..
Though declared as a thriller also DONKEY PUNCH (2008) might be a bit hard for some viewers - it is about a group of people making holidays in Spain - and end up fighting for their life.. (Not my idea of a dream vacation..) Here Jaime had some really hot sex scenes..
Then she made EVE (2009) - of which I don't know too much besides that it was rather short with ca 75 Minutes.. Sorry for that lack of information here..
But I can tell you about a comedy she did in that very year: BOOGIE WOOGIE (2009). This film is quite a crazy little comedy with a very interesting cast: It has among others Heather Graham, Alan Cumming, Gilian Anderson, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan SkarsgƄrd, Charlotte Rampling, Joanna Lumley and Christopher Lee.. Have a look here:
My overall favourite film which features her is MADE IN DAGENHAM (2010) - and I recommend to all of you. It is really great - and especially when you enjoy British comedies which are not only funny but also very intelligent and partly a bit sad this might be your cup of tea. It is for sure when you enjoy films set in 1960s.. This film is so up for one of my epic reviews.. Jamie's father Ray later stated that this film made him cry because it made him think of his own "hardworking mom".
Jaime Winstone is the girl you see in the very first seconds of this clip - wearing and posing in hot pants.. Actually you will notice her through the whole film - which is caused by the fact that it is extremely well written and gives every character the chance to show some aspects of their personality..
Again: this is one of my favourites films ever - and I highly recommend it. Not only because it has one of my two number 1 favourite recent actresses Sally Hawkins in the leading part..
In 2011 Jaime appeared in two films WILD BILL (2011) and ANUVAHOOD (2011) - which are quite different - and still resemble each other in the social class they are portraying.. But while WILD BILL is more of a brutal and drama type - I think you might take a look at ANUVAHOOD:
This year Jaime is coming home to horror films with ELFIE HOPKINS (2012) - which also features her father Ray Winstone. Because of her I am actually thinking about watching this one.. Maybe I will need someone to hold my hand then..
Right now the next film she will be in is UWANTME2KILLHIM (2012) - and though most of her films are a bit too tough for me - I certainly hope to see her again on screen and will be watching out for her. She is quite an interesting actress - and I think it would be great to see her develop in her roles..
~ one of my favourite pictures of her - you are not surprised, are you? ~
Finally the weekend is near - and some people were born this day...
...like these gentlemen:
Ray Walston
*December 2, 1914 (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA)
† January 1, 2001 (Beverly Hills, California, USA)
I love him most in KISS ME, STUPID (1964) and SOUTH PACIFIC (1958). He was a wonderful actor - who most US followers will probably know best as MY FAVORITE MARTIAN..
~ HE could wear it.. ~
-----
Brendan Coyle
* December 2, 1963 (Corby, Northamptonshire, England, UK)
I love him. He is very attractive.. He is also an amazing actor. I think most of my female followers will know him from several (magnificent!!) BBC series like NORTH & SOUTH, DOWNTON ABBEY, LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD ...
~ at this point I might warn you: Every december I fall in a completely BBC mania - so prepare for at least one review.. ~
-----
And here some German ladies:
Sybille Schmitz
* December 2, 1909 (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany)
† April 13, 1955 (Munich, Bavaria, Germany)
Very fascinating, glamourous actress - she was very successful during the 3rd Reich in various dramas - her most popular films might be TITANIC (1943) and the horror film VAMPYR (1932) (-> the US titles for that film are THE VAMPIRE (actually "Vampyr" is a dated way to write "Vampir" = engl. "vampire"), CASTLE OF DOOM and NOT AGAINST THE FLESH.)
Sadly she was kind of a self destructive persona who suffered from depression, alcoholism and drug abuse. After several attempts she took her life with an overdose of sleeping pills. - For those of you who are fond of such bits of information: Her last character in a film also died due to suicide..
The film VERONIKA VOSS (1982) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder is (loosely) based on her life.

Rita Paul
*December 2, 1928 (Berlin, Germany)
She was more a singer than an actress - she appeared in about two US films: UNDER FIRE (1957) and FRĆULEIN (1958). I love her voice - and though you might not understand her - you could listen (if you like):
She is singing a song named DAS IST NICHTS FĆR KLEINE MĆDCHEN (= "That's not for little girls") - in this song her mother doesn't allow her to kiss/love boys .. the male voice is Bully Buhlan - he is singing that his mother forbid him to play with dolls and told him to be nice to girls - though he didn't like them.. ... well - you may take this song as you please..
I fell for Rita Paul's voice when I was about ten years old - back then I had no idea how she might look.. I was certain that she had to be very, very pretty.. and even if she would look like a barrel filled with porcupines I would love her. (..stubborn little me.. ... oh - and I like porcupines..) Well - look (and decide) for your own:
Here she is with Bully Buhlan - with whom she sang several songs during the 1950s - it's one of my favourite pictures..:
~ Mission of the day: give someone you like a hug! ~
Well.. that's about it for today.. Enough of obscure German actresses..
He was one of Preston Sturges' stock company actors - in about 10 of 13 films directed by Sturges he appeared - his face you might know - though you might be not aware of his name - - today is his birthday:
Torben Meyer
* December 1, 1884 (Ć rhus, Denmark)
†May 22, 1975 (Hollywood, USA)
I think he is best know as Werner Lampe in JUDGMENT IN NUREMBERG (1961)
------
He is turning 50 today - and he is one of my all-time crushes:
Jeremy Northam
*December 1, 1961 (Cambridge, UK)
-----
She is turning 40 today - an actress, who I adore and about whom I talked lately with one of my best friends:
Emily Mortimer
*December 1, 1971 (London, UK)
-----
He was sometimes a bit over the top - and though he had bit parts in so many classics - and in some he had even bigger parts.. I wasn't able to find a proper picture - so here you'll get a trailer for a film I haven't seen yet - but it'll give you at least his face..
And again: Some of my favourites are having their Birthday today!
So yay for:
Eamonn Walker
* November 30, 1950
~ What can I say? He is just awesome! And very sexy.. ~
Mandy Patinkin
* November 30, 1952
~ Love him! Love him when he smiles - and love him when he's grumpy. Adorable! Also very, very sexy.. ~
and
Virginia Mayo!
* November 30, 1920
† January 17, 2005
Great actress! She is - of course: very, very, very sexy..
Just a day for sexy people..
All of them are not only actors but very talented musical performancers - though Miss Mayo stated that she was a professional nonsinger -she was a not so bad at dancing: Have a look - this is from STARLIFT (1951):
Mandy Patinkin is here singing a well known song from a classic movie:
Eamonn Walker sounds completely different than Mr. Patinkin.. He was afraid he couldn't do the part of Howlin' Wolf in CADILLAC RECORDS (2008) - because he would have to sing - but I love it! (I am a fan of Howlin' Wolf - and I think Mr. Walker did a good job here - not to mention that I get some kick out of his smile..) The film is one of my modern favourites:
Some of Irene's favourite directors (in no particular order)
Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, George Cukor, Michael Curtiz, Douglas Sirk, Ernst Lubitsch, Preston Sturges, Tim Burton, Otto Preminger, Tarsem Singh, Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, William Wyler...
