Selling stuff with Hollywood - in Germany

Hollywood sells.. It really does..

Maybe you remember a post I wrote almost exactly one year ago on May 12, 2011: "Some changes and really strange things". It contained pictures of film-themed ice cream. - and because I changed some grammar in it it just went up and appears to be freshly posted on this blog..

By then there were just two kinds of flavors: GONE WITH THE WIND (1939) ("dark chocolate and raspberry with raspberry sauce") and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965) ("lemon, mascarpone and vodka-lemon-sauce")

Of course it was just a question of time until the next flavors were up on the market.. so this year I (not really proudly but with quite an impish smile) present:

ROMEO & JULIET (1968)

("fruity ice cream with blueberries/bilberries and vanilla ice cream with blueberry/bilberry sauce
- plus some white and dark chocolate hearts")

Ever asked yourself how kitschy ice cream can get? Now you have your answer..

Well.. and then we have:

CASABLANCA (1942)

("white chocolate ice cream and nougat ice cream with a chocolate nut sauce and roasted almond slivers")

- we all saw that one coming - didn't we?

And again I ask: What might be next??

Well..

Now.. selling things with a little help by Hollywood is nothing new here..

I lately read a book I just bought because of it's cover:

Yup.. that's the wonderful, wonderful Lizabeth Scott - on a cover of a really, really schmaltzy romance novel from 1952.

I loved it. It was great! ... At least five couples in the end.. and just by page 43 there was the first engagement.. It had also a murder for honor - and actually some very, very soft sex scenes.. It was really hilarious. I mean come on: the title is DIE LOCKENDE INSEL = alluring island ...

Plus: it had Lizabeth Scott on the cover.. (And I really, really adore her..)

Well - I really had fun reading that book.. and looking at the cover.. Did I mention who was pictured there?

Thank you all so very much for giving your precious time for such a meaningless post..

Have a great day!

Yours

very well and truly,

Irene

Some changes and really strange things.. ;")

Monty is on vacation - so I am acting as his substitute on his blog ALL GOOD THINGS - come and visit me there, if you like to. It'll only last till Sunday - and it won't be anything special (in the main it'll be Birthday posts..) but for I am about to change a few things here, it is a good chance to try me out a bit.. - without displace Monty's followers preferably... ;")

I want to post shorter entries on this blog added to the very, very, very long film post I normally do here. These long posts mean a lot of work (I know according to my grammar and spelling it does not seem so.. ;"p) and they also are real "timegobblers" for you - I know that from my own reading habits here..

I also want to post more often than I do now. So there will be a few changes with small posts (titbits) about film-things, moviepeople I love/loathe or just random thoughts about flicks.

E.g. silly stuff like this today: ;")

Some weeks ago I found these in the supermarket:

Classic-films-themed ice cream!!

GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)
("Dark chocolate and raspberry with raspberry-sauce")

and

DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965)
("lemon, mascarpone and vodka-lemon-sauce")

Crazy, isn't it?

I am curious - what will be next?

WESTSIDE STORY (1961)? Or maybe HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE (1953)?

Or, no - wait: WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (1957) and SUNSET BLVD. (1950)!!

What do you think: Which flavour would they have? Which films would you like to taste? ;")

A 1980ies commercial I grew up with - at least a bit related to the ice theme today..

R-r-r-aving about things with "R" .. - attending a meme without a name..

Via DKoren and her fabulous blog SIDEWALK CROSSINGS I found this meme.. (Her post is linked - so you can read about her favourite things beginning with the letter "M".. - I also think this is part of the rules - though it isn't actually said there..)

Here are the rules:

"How to Play: Comment to this entry and I'll give you a letter. List ten things that you love that begin with that letter and then post that list on your journal."

Now this sounds like fun - doesn't it?

The letter I got was "R" - hence the title of this post.. Though it's no part of the rules I am trying to name ten "things" I love beginning with "r" which are related to films..

So - let's see - here they are in a random order just the first ten "things" with "r" that I can think of:

  • R like Raft, George - I am more than just fond of this gentleman.. He is one of my altime favourites..

  • R like RAVEN, THE (1963) - well.. of course I LOVE that one!! It has Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Hazel Court and Boris Karloff!! I am looking forward for THE RAVEN (2012) - a film about Edgar Allan Poe (Love him!!) which will be here released in cinema this year in September - I guess everywhere else it's by now almost forgotten..

Of course I love the poem of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe:

  - and that corvids are some of my favourite animals you know by now anyway..

  • R like Roscoe Karns - I love that guy! An appearance of him in a movie can brighten my day..

  • R like Renfield - this is one of my favourite fictitious characters ever - performed by my beloved Dwight Frye in the 1931 adaptation of my favourite novel DRACULA of course. His laughter and his whole interpretation of this part was just magnificent!

  • R like Romy Schneider  - another one of my favourites..

  • R like Russian composers.. I love a good score - also very much when it's got some classic music.. (Tchaikovsky was always one of my favourites..)

    • R like Robinson, Edward G. - another one I simply adore..

    • R like Ricky Ricardo - I ♥ LUCY - I really do.. And I adore Ricky.. Like him I have troubles with my "slight accent" - though my isn't as cute as his is.. I guess I sound like a Nazi spy from the old movies trying to sound like a cockney flower girl..

    • R like "Rosebud" ... think what you want of Orson Welles and CITIZEN KANE (1941) - for me that was a stroke of genius..  - and it had Agnes Robertson Moorehead..

    • R like Ryn, Nicholas van - one of my favourite Vincent Price film characters. It's from the amazing DRAGONWYCK (1946).. I love that maniac..

    Not bad - hm?

If you like to get a letter please leave a comment and ask for one - you can of course also comment without getting a letter..

    Hope you enjoyed this..

Have a lovely day - and thank you very much for listening!

And thanks to DKoren for letting me join the fun!

    Just because..

.. well.. ok there is a reason for this post (there always is.. I am pretty "reasonable" - u-hum..):

Yesterday morning I woke up ( I do that daily..) and - as usual - I had a song on my mind..

A song from a film which has one of my first style ideals:

Miss Bianca - the very elegant heroine of THE RESCUERS (1977)

    It was this song:

Don't ask me why.. I haven't seen this film for about a year.. which is actually a shame. I love the love story of Bernard and Bianca.. He is so adorable (I have a soft spot for stammering males..) - and she is so a cute little lady..

There are beautiful songs in this film - but that's the one which came to my mind..

As you all know Miss Bianca's voice was delivered by Eva Gabor:

    ~ Eva Gabor ~

Please, have a look at the actress who was Miss Bianca's German voice - and whose voice is known by almost every German child because of her work in children audio dramas (I bet German followers will know the name of reporter "Karla Kolumna" - another one of my childhood heroines.. She made me want to write..):
    It's Gisela Fritsch

    - who is the German voice of (amongst others) Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith..
    (How cool is that??)

    ~ Gisela Fritsch in 1950's  .. ~

Do you know the German version of the song?? - I just adore it!

I love this song anyway - but the German version just makes me giggle in happyness.. I have no idea why that is so..

And: you know what? I think it's great that the German mouse is singing that ardent.. I also think it's great that a female is the German represent..

How about he Swedish version then?

I also love the Arabian version!!

    - and I simply adore the Hungarian version!!

I know some bright day I will do a post about the complete film.. There are so many films out there I want to talk about...

    So for today:

Thank you so very much for listening!

    Yours very well and truly

    Can't wait till June!!

This is a completely overwhelming happy post:

    Monty

    - you know Monty! He is the (at least my) count of classic cinema. (I hope it's ok with him that I call him that..) If you don't know him: Shame on you!!! Go visit his blog(s) immediately!! Here's the one to start with: All Good Things -

so, Monty asked me to be his blog guest in June!!! (while I am writing this I am doing a silly little dance - mostly with my head and feets. My chair is a bit decrepit.. anyhow I am looking like Jerry Lewis - with breasts. Mr. Lewis is - as you may know - an awesome dancer.. Won't discuss my dancing skills.)

(originally I wanted to post his "dance" in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR - but all I was able to find was with a new audio track.. So this one is doing as well.)

Monty has every month another classic movie goddess - and fo June it's Doris Day. Ha! I am even more happy - if this is possible..

Since I was asked - and till it is June - I am singing this song over and over. It's the only song I can think of right now with June in it:

But there is something that troubles me - Monty usually asks his guests "questions about that person's faves but for you we may have to do something different."

Something different? Why? What? Is this good like "Oh, she is special. She is so marvellous - we're going to do tremendous things! And than she'll find a cure for hunger, war and bad taste!"?

Or is this something like "your daughter, you know, she is a lovely thing but *ahem* she is a bit sloooow.*ahem, ahem* So we do something different to make things more eeeasyyyy for her."

But: Never mind!! I'll do anything!! :") - except for cooking - believe me: you don't want me to cook something you want to EAT afterward. Oh - and also except for a video post. I am shy... ;")

But I even would wear this costume :

(This is my favourite picture of John Wayne)

And: I DO LIKE to paint with wax crayons.. Just in case I am the everyone-know-besides-her sloooow girl in the neighbour hood.. ;")

By the way: I already found a cure for bad taste: Watch classic films! Just mentioning it...

So, thank you soo much Monty! I hope I am going to be a good guest!! (And: I asked you if I was allowed to burst out in songs on this blog - so: You knew THIS POST would happen.) ;")

Yours (more than well and) truly

    Frl. Irene Palfy

(completely having kittens - what a GREAT expression!!)

This picture is for Monty - who is an avid Cary Grant fan - and this shows excately how I felt when I was asked:
