Welcome to a brandnew year!

I certainly hope that you all arrived savely in 2012  - Don't be irrated by the numbers in the Debra Paget pic - What? You didn't notice any numbers? mhm.. Me either..

[insert Groucho-Marx-eyebrow-wiggle

]

Where was I? Oh - yes: I hope you all arrived savely and happy.

New Year's Day is an approved day to look into future and make plans - and tell those plans to each and every one  - no matter if they're interested or not.

Oh - it's a wonderful tradition..

~ here illustrated by Zsa Zsa Gabor and Esther Williams ~

I myself looked into the cards for our beloved blog Sparkles (wait - did I hear a chuckle?? no.. must have been from another world..)

~ looking at this - I see.. I see a cold coming her way.. ~

And what did I see besides?? That's a good question indeed..

I saw:

The "Start with a Smile" posts on Mondays will return

Have a little reminder - one of my guests then was Mr. Rock Hudson - doing something like a smile..

Then of course there will still be the Puppy Love Tuesdays and Completely Having Kittens Thursdays..

~ hope the guests then won't be as stressed as Elizabeth Taylor's friends here.. ~

I also saw some new things:

I will  post now and then (I don't know if I can do it weekly..) short posts about new released films in cinema I'd like to watch.

There will be definitively more European films on this blog - and for those films are now and then hard to come by (or frankly: hard to watch at all..) I will try to do kind of "photo novels" to illustrate some scenes.. I do not know if that really will work but I'll give it a try - and please be aware that I might get awfully ironic when I talk about German films..

~ German actress Ilse Werner with her a bit ironic look.. ~

And finally:

Themed months - I will start this month with a theme called:

ON THE RUN

~ my cover girl will be Miss Lillian Gish ~

- and I will talk about some films dealing with Runaways and Refugees and Escapees and Escapists.. (Hence the new header..) Sometimes it'll make only sense for those who are brave enough to follow my "logic" - I will post after my own rules..

I hope I can also link the guests of my series to the themes somehow - we will see.. If it works out I will go on doing themed months like that.. A little challenge for myself.. (and hopefully not that challenging for you..)

Thank you all so very much for listening!

Yours

(very well and) truly

Que sera? in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - so you will find a daily picture of a celebrity who fought or is fighting against this disease - posted by Monty and me. The post will be named It could happen to you - because it could.. and the first person I am going to present had the leading part in a film with a quite similar title.. but shush.. wait and see...

I also will join Monty at his blog ALL GOOD THINGS with his Classic Horror Film Fest.

Take care!

Yours truly,

Irene

No guest - but a friend

Hey!

Remember me announcing that Monty Hawes of ALL GOOD THINGS would be my guest at this blog in July?

Well.. I am really not good in making plans and afterwards actually doing as I planned.. - I am not organized at all – but ~ ahem ~ who wants me to be organized?

- See!! Would be dull, wouldn’t it?

So instead of having Monty as a guest for one month.. ..he now is co-writer of this blog!

Whenever you’ll find a well done post with more of a proper spelling and written in a very good style – it might be one of Monty’s posts.. – or it’s by Dorothy Parker..

(I just love her..)

But first you have to know Monty a bit, I think.. So - let’s start with that:

For me the blogosphere is like attending a giant party – there are some groups everywhere talking about different things - like we’re here about films. At this point I like to say:

Thank you - to all who “listened to” and “talked with” me!! Let there always be good conversation and love for films!!

I hope you can follow the party scenario then this is how it will be going..

Please join me in this!

Ok. Let's start:

Imagine you at this giant party – no dress code.

You may wear just jeans and T-shirt - or you wear your favourite fancy outfit..

.. like Miss Turner does:

("Gorgeous, really gorgeous, Lana!!")

- or do it like Ringo:

("Oh, come on! Starrs have to shine, dear!!")

Grab some drink - whatever suits you..

(May I present? Our favourite barkeeper - Mr. Newman .. - just by the way: "Too much ice, Paul!! How often do have I to tell you: we don't need to be housewifely with the drinks?!?!")

..and try some snacks..

(Doesn't this just look delicious?? Miss Monroe tested every cake herself..

- "Thank you so much for your commitment, Marilyn!!")

Ok, do you feel fine?

Everything ok?

Great!

So now listen:

Sometime ago (last year to be specific) I “joined” a "little" group (ok - this is understated.. 140 followers right now!!) at this giant party and the guy who led the conversation was bold enough to compare two different films to each other – it was BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (1961) versus BUTTERFIELD 8 (1960) – plus:

HE DARED TO SAY THAT HE LIKES BUTTERFIELD BETTER!!

Can you imagine that??

I was struck all of a heap!

Ok – perfect moment to reveal that I am no fan of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S . Yeah - Holly is a great character, yeah – MOONRIVER is a great song, yeah – there is a cat in it – but still..

..well, and I just love BUTTERFIELD 8...

- anyhow:

I left a comment – he visited my film blog (back then it was just me – more or less) and became my first official follower here. (Thank you sooo much, Monty!!)

Later we did a certain festival together – Does a bell ring when I say “Beware these women”? – and while emailing and chatting we became friends – well, today he is actually one of my best friends..

Do you still picture the party scenery? Are you still comfortable?

Great! Because now I want my first follower and actually very good friend Monty (yeah! Who would have ever guessed that I am talking about Monty Hawes.. I hardly mentioned his name..) to step out of the crowd and tell a bit about himself

– he is just waiting for me to finally shut up - I know.. ;")

Please nod at him and/or give him a big lovely smile

– don’t applaud because I don’t want him to get nervous.. ;"p –

Here he is:

So, Monty - if you, please?

New paths and such on And then they start to sparkle

Hey, folks!

As you all know I am this month’s guest at my good friend Monty’s blog ALL GOOD THINGS - and it seems that I will stay guest fur July, too – is that awesome or what?? Bless that guest who jumped off – the Irene Palfy Show now has a prolonged season at ALL GOOD THINGS..

Being a guest at Monty’s means first and foremost I am talking shop and answer some questions about my liking and disliking in movies. One question was to name my favorite modern films – which I did - of course..

Now, Desiree – lovely lady, who has a great blog about the amazing Rosalind Russell -> please visit it HERE – asked me which I would recommend most. That is hard to do in a comment form – and hard to follow for her, too. So your poor Irene had to do some thinking.. *ouch*

Right now I am in a “modern film mood” – which is why I am neglecting you poor guys.. ;”) ~ yeah, let’s pretend you miss me, ok? ~

So I thought: Hey, let’s do some posts in which I talk about modern films ~ and smuggle in some films I did not mention in that answer I gave at Monty’s.. “gee – does Irene has secrets? Mysterious gal..” ;”p ~

It won’t be as extensive as the posts about classics – but there is more than b/w films out there, isn’t it? ;”) And don’t you start that: “Yeah – there is also Technicolor,too”-stuff at me – hear me?! You know very well what I am talking about..

So, please prepare for some meanderings around here, ok?

Thank you for listening! ;")

Yours (very well and) truly

Irene

Que sera?

My very good friend Monty of ALL GOOD THINGS has started the CLASSIC MOVIE ACTOR TOURNAMENT !!- and the Silent/ 30's Era is halfway through - today it is Clark Gable vs. James Cagney and William Powell vs. Errol Flynn. - and as always I am in the hm.. how shall I call it..: "non-winning team".. *sigh* - but maybe you can help that.. ;")

Just kidding - but I'd love you to go and vote for your favourite! But stay fair and vote just one time and don't push your favourite by unfair voting, please!

(Buster Keaton seems to be a bit depressed because he is out - don't be sad, Buster! I still love you, honey!!)

This month I am also a guest at Monty's blog who will asking me some questions and tries to make a star out of me.. Gee, I am feeling a bit like Judy Garland - you think I may get socked in the night I am finally going to win the Oscar? ;") ~ I am frequently training my Thank-you-speech for that Oscar night.. you all will break out in sobs, that's nothing you can avoid. Trust me! I am just about to look for the perfect dress.. ;"p well, not really.. ~

For I am a social star I am not the only leading lady this month on Monty's blog - I share top billing with Doris Day!! Can you imagine that?! ~ I am going to faint any minute.. ~

(Gee - Doris is almost ready - I got to get my make up, too!!)

That's it for June - and now we're talking about July:

I will attend PARIS IN JULY of BOOKBATH - which means on my bookblog ALL THAT GLISTENS COULD BE OLD I will be talking about books I read, which are setted in France or from French authors or whatever else, on my blog NOT SOPHISTICATED I will post some French music and maybe some other things connected with that theme - and of course here I will concentrate on films that are setted in Paris or France at all or have French actors in it or whatever - some tiny bits and pieces I think.. ;")

And for not being too onesided and also being a good guest I will ask Monty to be my guest in return here. Then he will answer some questions and I hope that he will tell us something about his blogs.. (That man is quite engaged.) This way I think there will be some post to release you from my french fixation in July.. ;")

Well, that's it for now - you now may enjoy your week-end!

Yours (very, very well) and truly

Irene
