Fresh from cinema.. ..Moonrise Kingdom

As you know I watched two films yesterday in cinema when I spent the day in the city.. So here is the second film - which also openend the Cannes Film Festival this year:

MOONRISE KINGDOM (USA, 2012) by Wes Anderson

In a nut-shell:

It's 1965. On Penzance Island, New England, Sam Shakusky (Jared Gilman in his first appearance - really liked his performance here) "quits" as a Khaki Scout and runs away with Suzy Bishop (Kara Hayward - also her first film - and also great..) who reads a lot but just at times goes off the rails.. They are in love and as they both are social outsiders they have a lot in common and for sure nothing to hold them back.

~ finding a way -
Suzy (with a furry friend in the basket) and Sam (with something furry on his head.) ~

Soon Suzy's parents (Frances McDormand and Bill Murray - both as we are used to see from them: just wonderful..), Scout Master Ward (unbelievable funny: Edward Norton) with several other Khaki Scouts, Island Police Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis - very cool and here I mean it in a good way ..) and "Social Services" (Tilda Swinton - great as always..) are after them.. What all of them don't know - but thanks to Narrator Bob Balaban (yay for him!!) we do : there is a storm ahead..

~ There were those two lawyers, a scout and a police man on a pier..
... oh.. You know that one already?  ~

If you are since forever dreaming to see...

... off-key romances and disaster movies...

... films set in 1965 on Islands...

... Bruce Willis not loosing his shirt but wearing glasses and listening to some Hank Williams songs...

... Bill Murray wearing nothing but his pyjama bottoms, some alcohol and an axe...

... Edward Norton / Harvey Keitel in Scout uniforms...

... you shouldn't loose time:

Go, watch this film as soon as possible, please!

~ always keep in mind: fire prevention - and a neat outfit ~

Yes.. I was waiting for this film since Wes Anderson is another of my favourite recent directors. - They release many films these days my favourite recent directors.. Really good for me.. - As in his other films the humour is quite laconic - and the film has so many details to see that every time you watch his films you might see something you did not notice before.. What I also like that every film of him seems to have it's own colour - this time it was yellow.. The soundtrack is as always for Anderson's films amazing - here it includes Classic and Country music by Hank Williams as much as FranƧoise Hardy's LE TEMP DE L'AMOUR..

I love Wes Anderson's film characters - how could I not love a girl who is not only an outsider but who loves to read and who won't leave her home without taking her FranƧoise Hardy album and her little tom-cat with her?  (That is truly a character I can relate to - though I never attacked people..)

To be frank: I was a bit worried about the cat.. There appears always one death in Wes Anderson's films.. If you're looking careful at this post you will learn who it'll be this time - in case you don't want to be surprised..

~ another actress named Hayward..
I will be watching you, love.. yes.. I will be watching.. *muhahaha* ~

Those who know Wes Anderson's films will be aware that there is kind of an Anderson ensemble - those actors who will appear in his films frequently - in this film it is Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman (who played another Scout..). I loved that none other than Harvey Keitel appeared as the ultimate Scout Commander Pierce! And that Edward Norton agreed to play Scout Master Ward - well.. little film fan girl was quite excited.. and *Jiminy Cricket!* really had a great time!

Have a look - you'll even get to see the little tom-cat in the end..:

So if you like some intelligent, calm and at times a bit black humour presented by a magnificent cast - you might enjoy this 94 minutes of film as much as I did.

Thank you very much for listening!

Yours very well and truly

Irene

"You look terrible!"

Just watched Jonathan Mostow's SURROGATES (2009) which is based on a comic book series - and have to spread some thoughts.. - But: beware! - This will be kind of deep insight into a kind of dickey female brain.. Mine - to be specific.. ;")

In a nutshell:

Not too far in the future: Dr. Lionel Canter (James Cromwell) invented so called surrogates – androids - which make it possible for you to leave your “real body” at home while via your surrogate – whose looks can be just as perfect as you want it - you'll live your "real" life in the "real" world:
your surrogate is connected with you - so he/she does what you want and you see what he/ she sees etc. – when your surrogate is damaged it won’t hurt you.. well, that’s the way it was - but now someone out there is after surrogates and when he gets them their human counterparts will die, too..

So FBI agent Andrew Stone (Boris Kodjoe) sends out agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) and Greer’s partner agent Jennifer Peters (Radha Mitchell) to find out what is happening and who is the mastermind behind all this..

What’s more is that a group of activists against “robos” - led by “The Prophet” (Ving Rhames) - is making trouble and destroys Greer’s surrogate – while Greer has also some worries with his wife Maggie (Rosamund Pike)…

Ok.. - I have to confess: when I saw Mr. Willis looking like this I was first thinking:

Oh! No!! What have you done to yourself, Bruce?

- and than I simply had to laugh - because: Well, he looks a bit silly.. doesn't he? ;")

Radha Mitchell - not looking silly at all..

Watch out for:

  • Well, I was told that porn actress Hanna Hilton has a cameo in this film - but I don't know who she is. (internal memo: "watch more US porn..") Gee - I hope there was no big sign saying: "Hey - This is porn star Hanna Hilton!!" and I just overlooked her.. Maybe someone notices her in the trailer..

  • I did notice Hiroshi Ishiguro (HA!!..) in the opening sequence - he is a Japanese scientist and you can see him with his actual android in the beginning of this film - see: SURROGATES is really not that far away in the future..
Look at all those pretty people - like Rosamund Pike and Boris Kodjoe!!

This film really hits a nerve of mine:

Like most females (I asume that from all those magazine articles out there about how to loose fat and receive perfectly shaped eyebrows etc..) I sometimes feel really ugly.. - Looking at some magazines for guys - you boys are worriyng, too - aren't you??

It did take me some time to accept that I will never look like Ava Gardner or Lana Turner or someone like that. That I am just an ordenary girl - with nothing to be proud of - but also nothing to be ashamed of. Actually I think I am quite ok. ... hm.. but come to think of it.. ;")

You know what? Whenever I spot some actress with cellulitis or bad complexion - I immediatly become her fan. The male actors I like all have some kind of imperfection..

Nevertheless I love Rosamund Pike and Radha Mitchell since forever - they are two of my favourite modern actresses.. Just don't let us discuss that, ok? ;")

It was quite interesting to notice that Bruce Willis - looking how we all know him - is the "real" Tom Greer - while Radha Mitchell's and Rosamund Pike's normal film appearance here was their surrogate's looks - and they had to go under heavy make up to become the "real" Jennifer resp. Maggie.. What do you think does this mean?

See! That's how I like Bruce Willis to look like.. Like a real person! And it comes even better: that man really has a tough time again..

- well - he is after all Bruce Willis.. There seems to be always someone out there to want him to suffer..

Scene to see:

Watch the whole film, please - but watch out for that "break-down" scene (you can spot it in the trailer too..) - that is amazing film making! It is also awesome to see Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) really in pieces walking through streets filled with surrogates..

Have a look:

You should watch this film if you..

... never mind - just watch this film. ;")

I think it's a good film for boys AND girls. Some action (quite awesome car crashes - though I am really no expert in action scenes..) and some thoughts about looking/being perfect - suits most of us, doesn't it??

Quotes Corner:

Tom Greer: "Honey, I don't know what you are. I mean, for all I know, you could be some big, fat dude sitting in his stim chair with his dick hanging out."

~ well, isn't that just a lovely image ?? ~

There's just one more thing:

SURROGATES delivers quite an interesting idea: What would you like to have your android look like? Would you like to have one at all??

Look - even surrogates are visiting cosmeticians..

(ok - have you noticed that I used "look" in some way for every picture in this entry? hm?? ;"p
- No this is no coincindence.. Neither is the title of this entry..)

Thank you very much for listening!

Yours (very well, quite nice looking today and) truly

Irene

(- the real one - no surrogate!)
